An adult is a person or animal who is at the full growth.The biological meaning of the word means animals that have reached sexual maturity, and therefore capable of reproducing. Within the human realm, adults refer to social and legal concepts. As opposed to "minor" (or "non-adult", a legal-age adult is an individual that has reached the age of majority. They are regarded as competent, responsible and independent. Also, they can be described as an "major". 18 is the typical legal age for adulthood but this could vary based on the country of origin and the status of the law and also mental maturity.

Human development is the time in which full physical and mental maturity is attained. Many people believe that the age of adulthood starts at 20 years or more. Following middle age (starting at around 40), comes old age (around the age of 60). The three phases of adulthood include early adulthood (from mid-30s through late-60s) and middle adulthood, from the mid-30s through late-60s, and finally adulthood, (mid-60s through the time of death). When we reach the early phases of adulthood (between 20-40), our bodies have reached their full maturity even though our weight and height might increase a bit. As we enter our early adulthood, our physical abilities are at their highest such as the strength of our muscles, our reaction speed as well as sensory capabilities, heart function.
