Katarina Wit began skating at five years old. Then, her talent became apparent and she was accepted to Karl-Marx-Stadt's special school. This is where she saw her teacher Jutta M ller. Witt was able to make her mark in 1982, when she finished second at her first World Championships at Copenhagen. Her graceful style and elegance of Witt captured the eyes of everyone and she has dominating her sport since then. Olympic success In the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating following a heatedly-contested competition. Four years later, she won an even tighter contest. Free skaters lost however she was awarded the gold medal in the mandatory figures and her program was short. Witt became the first female to win in both women's and men's figure-skating since Sonja Hiene. Hall of Fame After enjoying great success in the field of acting, Witt returned to the sport in the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. In spite of not receiving an award for gold, the young skater won over the audience. Witt's induction into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
